Select the courses based on public health competencies that help you achieve your specific professional goals. The Generalist concentration is a customizable concentration for students who have already obtained an advanced graduate or professional degree (e.g. JD, PhD, MD, etc.) before starting the MPH program. Prior approval by the program directors is required.

Why select the Generalist concentration at USC?

The Generalist concentration provides students with the opportunity to tailor their studies so that the coursework they select can complement their experiences and help them achieve their specific goals. Students who select the Generalist concentration complete the core courses and plan the remainder of their courses based on public health competencies chosen under the advisement of their faculty advisors.

Curriculum at a glance

In addition to the MPH Core Requirements (22 units), students will complete 20 units of coursework through courses identified with their faculty adviser based on public health competencies that align with their background and professional goals. Students must meet public health competency requirement and complete 42 units in total.
